The view that I woke up to in Tennessee
While at the park, I took a drive / hike up to Clingman's Dome, the highest point in the Smokies.
The forests at the the high elevation mountain tops are spruce-fir forest. Everything is a lush green in the understory and it smells like Christmas trees.
Unfortunately these forests are suffering due to an invasive insect: the adelgid. You can see how many trees have already been killed.
